Love, Sex and the I.R.S., is a wild farce with twists of fate, sight gags,
mistaken identities and hilarious comic lines. Jon Trachtman (Matt Kolar)
and Leslie Arthur (Nathan Sumerix) are out of work musicians who room together
in New York City. To save money, Jon has taken advantage of Leslie's gender ambiguous
name and has been filing tax returns listing the pair as a married couple. The day of
reckoning comes when the Internal Revenue Service informs the "couple" they're going
to be investigated by their auditor, Mr. Spinner (Ron Ross). In order to deceive
Spinner, Leslie masquerades as a housewife, aided by Jon's fiancé, Kate (
Tonya Byzewski). Complicating matters further, Leslie and Kate are having an affair
behind Jon's back. Just when you think it can't get any worse for Jon and Leslie, Jon's
mother (Thelma Stevens) drops in unexpectedly to meet her son's fiancé,
and Leslie's ex girlfriend, Connie (Julie Hanna) shows up demanding to know why
Leslie has changed and won't see her anymore. Throw in a meddling building Super, Mrs.
Jansen (Donna Roussin) and a new age priest (Chip Lavely) and the plot
boils with hilarious situation after hilarious situation.
Love, Sex, and the I.R.S. was Billy Van Zandt's and Jane Milmore's first
collaboration in 1979. Since then they have written over 20 plays together, all listed
with Samuel French. Both are writers, actors and producers with a long list of credits
to their name. When not writing stage plays they deal mostly with television projects.
They have an offbeat sense of humor that audiences connect with.
Despite their long successful collaboration they are not married to one another. Van
Zandt is married to actress-director Adrienne Barbeau and Milmore is married to
writer-producer Richard Vaczy; the first and only spouse for both.
